Spring 2011

The grass is finally turning green again and we've welcomed nine of our expected 14 calves already - three heifers and six bull calves.  The return of the grass and calving season means that the dairy is gearing up again!  We anticipate our first store day to be Saturday, April 23th.  Again we will be featuring our own cheeses, certified organic eggs from our neighbors at Common Good Farm, and our own ground beef by mid-July.    Store hours will remain 11am-6pm Tuesdays and Saturdays.

We are also planning to have fall calves for the first time - this means we will be milking longer into the fall and making cheese for the holiday markets.  Plan your gift baskets early!

PIGS!

For the first time this year we are raising some Berkshire hogs.  Our newest intern, Nels, is leading the way on this project and will have pork for sale by this fall.  Please reserve yours early!

Tours

We love to show people what we are doing and talk about growing and producing food.  We can accomodate groups from 10-50, ages 5-105.  Included are: pasture walk, tour of the milking parlour, milk room, viewing of the on-farm cheese plant, aging cave and samples.  Depending on the time of the tour, the girls might even be in the milking parlour "working".  We ask $3/ person, minimum 10.

Classes

Please contact us through the website for a schedule of classes.  During the 2011 season, tentative plans for classes on Friday afternoon, Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons are being made.  Arrangements are made on an individual basis.  $40 / 1 person; $60 / 2 people; $75 three (maximum).  Please plan to wear comfortable and clean clothes and be able to stand on concrete for 2-5 hours.  Typically snack and cheese are tasting included.

Web presence

We continue to make Facebook posts and Twitter.  Find us: "Branched Oak Farm - Dairy and Cheese" at these internet locations.   We also have some posts on YouTube so you can see some farm action on the internet.  Surely there will be a pig story or two this year!  We love sharing about what we do and hope you enjoy it, too!
